If your half bath is in need of an update, there are a few remodeling ideas you can use to give it a new look while also maximizing space. Use these ideas to help create a stunning new half bath in your home.
New Lighting
Smaller bathrooms can sometimes seem dimly lit, particularly if you only have a ceiling light in the room. Work with your contractor to create a lighting concept that makes this room feel bright and airy despite its small size. Consider sconces on either side of your vanity mirror to create a luxurious look, or opt for recessed lighting to bring a sleek, modern feel to the room. You can also look for three- and four-light vanity bars to brighten the space above your vanity if you don't want to run wires for sconces.
Corner Shower
You can turn your half bath into a full-service bathroom by adding a small corner shower. If you have a half bath that is large enough for this option, work with your contractor to run plumbing and shift the vanity to make room. This option is ideal for use in a finished basement apartment you might use for overnight guests or in a teen's bedroom suite. Opt for frameless shower doors to make the room feel open, and consider additional luxury features, such as a rainfall shower head.
Vanity-To-Ceiling Mirror
Mirrors can give a smaller room the illusion of looking bigger. You can use this concept to create a big feel for your small half bath by replacing your medicine cabinet with a vanity-to-ceiling mirror. This mirror should run from the top of the vanity counter to the ceiling, or at least close to the top of the wall. You can add wood molding around the edges to create a frame, or leave the edges unfinished for a minimalist look. Use recessed lighting as discussed above to illuminate the mirror, and move towel racks and holders to the walls on either side of the vanity for easy access. If you don't want to add a full mirror above the vanity, consider installing a long mirror on the back of the bathroom door. This still gives you a way to make a final check of your outfit every day while also making the room feel larger.
Talk to a contractor, such as from Sierra Remodeling & Home Builders Inc, about what you want the finished room to look like, and create a plan to give your half bath the update you want.
